What inspired you to write Raising Naturally Healthy Pets?

I wanted to write a book for people who were just starting with a young puppy or kitten, but would also appeal to anyone who owned a pet and wanted to move towards better health and longevity through natural pet rearing.

As a veterinarian with over four decades of experience, I practiced integrated medicine (both traditional and holistic) for the better part of my career and saw how using holistic therapies and proper diet benefited my patients.

Everything from allergies, ear infections, inflammatory bowel disease, and endocrine diseases, to liver and kidney disease can commonly be linked to problems with diet. So, starting pets on the right track from the beginning can help them avoid health issues associated with the long-term use of processed kibble and canned pet foods that contain poor-quality ingredients.

Ultimately, pets are a part of the family. The human-animal bond is very strong, so by feeding your pet a healthy, species-appropriate diet, you can ensure they will live a longer, healthier life!

Great! I have received Book Excellence Awards for other books I have written so I am familiar with the awards program and its benefits. I like the exposure my books get through the program.

What is one message you would like readers to remember?

Food is the foundation of life and I firmly believe that holds true for our pets.

When pets are taken off low-quality, highly processed diets and moved to a diet specific to their condition, they will show immediate improvement.

In addition, no two animals are the same; feeding a species-appropriate diet and using vaccination and medication protocols that have been tailored to the animal is the basis for better health.
