How to Clean a Jacuzzi Brand Infrared Sauna

Keeping an infrared sauna clean, safe and enjoyable with regular cleaning and maintenance.

Is it time to take a new approach to health and wellness? Installing an infrared sauna is the ultimate step to revamping at-home relaxation, self-care practices and commitment to health and wellness. To make things even better, sauna maintenance can be a quick and simple process. In this article, learn how to clean a Jacuzzi® Infrared Sauna and all of the components and features inside.

Cleaning an Infrared Sauna

Infrared saunas create dry heat. Differing from traditional saunas that utilize steam and wet heat, infrared saunas don’t require much cleaning as the interior is not wet, which can allow for the growth of bacteria and mould if not properly maintained and cleaned.

For a basic cleaning, all that is needed is a cloth and some warm water to wipe down the surfaces. This should be done after every use. Roughly every two weeks is when a deeper cleaning is suggested. To do this, add one tablespoon of baking soda to a gallon of water in a bucket. Lightly scrub the wood with a gentle brush for a much deeper clean.

Bench

Arguably the most used interior surface within a sauna, the bench should be cleaned regularly. As mentioned above, use a cloth and warm water to wipe down the sauna bench after every use. If stains from perspiration begin to appear, lightly sand the area with sandpaper for a like-new result.

Floor

Next to the bench, the floor is definitely the next in line for being the most used surface inside a sauna. Use a handheld vacuum to clean dirt, dust and debris from the floor in the sauna, anywhere from once a week to once a month depending on how frequently it is used and dirty the floor gets. Once a month the floored should be mopped using a clean mop and the baking soda solution described earlier.

Walls

Once a month should be more than enough to clean the walls inside of an infrared sauna. Use a cloth and baking soda solution to wipe and clean the interior walls. Now, the exterior walls on the other hand, are a different story. To maintain the shine and beautiful aesthetic of the sauna from the outside, use a polish. Do not use paint or varnish on the exterior of the sauna.

Heater

Cleaning the infrared heater inside the sauna is easier than most might think. All that is needed is a warm, damp cloth. Simply wipe down all areas of the heater and allow it to completely dry.

Maintenance Tips & Tricks

• Shower before using the sauna to avoid bringing dirt, oil and other contaminants inside
• Sit on a towel or use it as a full-body wrap. This can add a buffer between skin and wood, absorbing sweat and catching any dirt or oil.
• Bring a small towel into the sauna to wipe sweat away.
• Don’t overdo it, when it comes to sauna maintenance, less is more.
